Knowledge Transfer Partnerships can help you get ahead

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a government-funded programme that enables businesses and universities to work together on a six month to three year strategic project.

The project is carried out by a highly talented graduate under expert university academic guidance. Up to 67 per cent of the project costs are government-funded.

Employed by the university, the graduate (known as a KTP Associate) is based at the company premises and supervised by the company and the university.

The latest statistics from Innovate UK show that, on average, the KTP business benefits are:

  • £113k one-off increase in net profit during the programme
  • Projected increase of over £1 million in annual profits before tax
  • The creation of two new jobs
  • Increase in skills of existing staff

To be eligible, companies should:

  • Have the infrastructure to support the KTP Associate and the project
  • Have at least five employees
  • Have been running for at least two years
  • Be an SME or, if larger, be able to demonstrate that knowledge will be transferred to SMEs within their supply chain

The University of Brighton has already worked with 250 companies on KTPs. See some of the projects, or find out more about KTPs.
