Brighton University plans Horsham campus

The University of Brighton is planning to open a facility housing 3,500 students and supporting local small business and start-up growth.

Horsham could be home to a high quality higher education facility specialising in biotechnology and biomedicine if University of Brighton plans go ahead. The university is in negotiations to purchase the former Novartis site on Wimblehurst Road, and if the development goes ahead the university estimates it could create up to 2,250 jobs and bring £1.7 billion of investment to the region.

The centre would take advantage of the laboratories built for Novartis to provide high quality education and research facilities, and would aim to provide links between school students, small businesses and inward investment to help develop the economy of the Gatwick Diamond, and Horsham District in particular.

Councillor Ray Dawe, the Leader of Horsham District Council, said,

“A university would hold a prominent role in the community and would add significantly to the economic growth, job creation and skills development across the district and would greatly support the 75,000 businesses and enterprises that already exist within the Gatwick Diamond.”

For more information, read the University of Brighton’s statement on the plans.
