Partnership proves a winning formula for Building Control

SUSSEX Building Control and housing association Saxon Weald scooped a top prize in the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) South East Building Excellence awards earlier this month.

The two organisations were awarded first prize in the Best Partnership category at the ceremony on Friday 6 July 2012 as recognition of their close working relationship over the past three years.

During this time, the organisations have successfully completed more than 270 new, affordable homes acrossSussex. Sussex Building Control is the local authority building control service for Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council.

Saxon Weald is a housing association that owns and manages over 5,700 properties acrossSussexand Hampshire, including general needs, retirement and shared ownership homes.

Stephen Humphreys, Senior Development Project Manager at Saxon Weald, said:

"Partnering with Sussex Building Control has made a significant difference to our business.

"It provides a consistent approach to the building regulations, enables the project team to have face to face discussions with our LABC surveyor and agree generic solutions that can be applied to all our schemes acrossSussex."

Stephen Shorrocks, Building Control Manager at Horsham District Council, said:

"Partnering is great for us as it enables us to get close to clients and integrate into their design teams, which gives us a much better understanding of their projects.

"It also enables us to provide early advice at the feasibility stage and develop relationships with their supply chain."

Cllr Ian Howard, Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for Living & Working Communities, said:

"Partnering is most definitely a winning formula for building control as it introduces them to forthcoming schemes at a very early stage and this is where they can add real value to the development process as they provide unrivalled technical advice and knowledge."
